Bed Throws

Throws are available in a variety of styles, and they can truly add a nice touch to the bed and bedroom design.

In order to make a bed throw, you will need to prepare the following equipment.

Note: knowledge of sewing is required.

How to Sew Throws

Required Tools and Materials

Straight pins
Scissors
Measuring tape
Fleece fabric
Sewing machine
Thread

Decide on the Size

The size of the throw depends on you. Usually it hangs over the edge of the bed when folded. Just measure the bed width and add a few feet for the projection. Add an inch to all the measurements for hemming purposes.

The throw can be lengthy enough to wrap up the legs or the entire body. It is up to you.

Now you can buy the fleece and thread.

Step 1

Cut any excess fabric from the material.

Step 2

Pin an inch under the entire fleece. Use the pins for this task.

Step 3

Sew near the inside edge. Keep going until you get around the throw. Start by sewing the long outer edges before going to the top and bottom. Ensure the top edges line correctly. If done correctly, the throw will have a smooth edge.

Step 4

You can put in fringes and other trimmings to the edge.

How to Sew Bed Throws Method II

Required Tools and Materials

Sewing machine
Pins
Needle
Thread
Sewing scissors
Measuring tape

Step 1

Choose the fabric. Popular choices are faux animal fur, cotton and fleece. The length needs to be at least 2 yards wide.

Step 2

Cut two panels from the fabric to the desired size. On a flat surface, put these panels on top of one another. The right side should face in.

Step 3

Pin 3 of the sides of the panels. The fourth should be open by 7 inches. This space is necessary so you can flip the throw later on.

Step 4

Make a one inch seam with the sewing machine. The seam should be by the fabric sides. Take off the pins.

Step 5

Now turn the throw right side out. Do this by getting the fabric and pulling it out. Get the thread and needle. You can hand stitch the rest.

How to Buy

The chief consideration will be the size. As stated earlier this will be a matter of personal preference. But for reference, a queen size bed is 60 inches wide. The king size bed is 76 niches wide.

Most people like their throws – yard longer than the bed. That is not a hard and fast rule, but it is worth keeping in mind if you want traditional throws.

It is often cheaper to buy online than in retail stores. You also have more choices. Before you buy, go over the whole expense. Be certain there are no hidden fees or charges for the shipping.

Whether you decide to buy or make a bed throw, matters like fabrics and size have to be considered. By taking these into account you will have the perfect throw for the bed.
